Learning a second language is a great way to exercise the brain! Whether you are a child, or an adult, it’s never too late to learn a second language, and there are countless ways that a skill such as being able to speak more than one language could come in handy! As a young teen I did take French in school and managed to pick up a decent amount of French skills…though now I would be hard pressed to remember many of them anymore… I’ve recently picked up the study of a second language again – and when I have the time I am enjoying exercising my brain and learning a new skill.

Although learning a second language as an adult can be done, I do believe that it is much easier if you start language learning when you are young – in other words – when you are a child! Because of this, we are already avidly working to teach our children a second language, and they begin their language studies at the age of 5 years old.

DK Canada has a lot of great books and resources for those of us who are learning a second language. One of their latest books is My First French Book at Home. This book is a durable, colorful and fun board book that is perfect for beginning to introduce French to toddlers. The picture tabs make it easy for children to turn the pages – and they add a fun dimension to the book as well. Each page is filled with fabulous photographs that will certainly capture your child’s attention! The simple word labels are great for introducing a second language in small, “bite-sized” chunks to your youngster.
I’m sure you can guess that My First French Book At home introduces words that relate to things around your home such as the garden, kitchen, and so much more! Since most of us spend a fair amount of time at home, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to put begin to use these words in every day life with your child as well! My First French Book At Home is a simple and fun way to start helping your child learn and grasp the concept of a second language and it’s also a great way to start adding some new French words to their vocabulary!
