Snacking Healthy!

OneEarthBananaQuinoaGranolaBarMixHealthy snacks are something that most families desire. However…it’s another thing to actually get those healthy snacks in your home sometimes, right? 😉 As a busy parent, I know if we are going to snack healthy, most of these snacks need to be something that doesn’t take much (or any!) extra prep…and we’ve come across a few great ones in the past month!

The OneEarth Banana Quinoa Granola Bar Mix is definitely a favorite. It does take a bit of preparation…but when I say “a bit” I literally mean only “a bit!” Maybe 5 minutes or less if you don’t count the time in the oven. 🙂 This granola bar mix is a healthier version of the “krispies” square. It is gluten-free, sweetened only with organic coconut sugar and contains a delicious blend of fruit, seeds  and healthy grain puffs and flakes. Both myself and our kids thoroughly enjoyed this treat! It’s good enough to have as a dessert, and definitely good enough to have as a snack!

NicksSticksBeefSnackOriginalBOXHere’s something that the guys will really like (though I definitely enjoyed them as well!) Wallace Farms Nick’s Sticks 100% Grass-Fed Beef Snack Sticks were soooo tasty! We’re all meat-lovers in our family, so the Nick’s Sticks fit right in. These snack sticks are made from the highest quality of grass-fed beef that is raised on a small family farm. They have absolutely no unhealthy ingredients…in other words: NO Antibiotics, hormones, sugar, gluten, red dye or artificial preservatives. They are perfect for a grab-and-go snack and are even shelf stable so you don’t need to worry about keeping them cool. Simply put, Nick’s Sticks receive a quadruple thumbs up from us and we would definitely consider stocking our pantry with these!

Chapul has a goal that they are aiming towards with their healthy snack bars and that is: “to build a more sustainable future by introducing incredibly efficient insect protein in a delicious, organic product…our tasty Chapul bars.”

These bars contain a blend of dates, chocolate, peanuts, Omega-3’s from flax and walnuts as well as their own, unique ingredient that makes these bars stand out – Chapul cricket protein flour. There are plenty of benefits to consuming insect protein – in fact, most countries around the world will consume certain insects. To us it might seem a bit foreign, but I’ve always been more on the adventurous side when it comes to food, so I took the plunge and tried the Chapul bars. My favorite was the Chaco flavor…however, we all found that these bars do have a bit of a unique taste to them that would take some getting used to if we were to consume them more often.  🙂

There you have it! A few new snack ideas to inspire you and help you think about how you can stock your home with healthy snacks that are better for your family. Each of these snack foods can be often found at your local independent retailers.
