Scholastic Monday ~ What is Peace?

Peace. It’s a word that’s used a fair amount in our daily lives. I hear myself saying things like “I could use a little peace and quiet today.” or “Let’s live in peace with each other!” and more. Peace is important…but when I truly think about the deep, underlying, true meaning of the word peace, there is much more that comes to mind than simply getting along with your siblings, or not having to solve the problem between 2 toddlers who both want the same toy. πŸ˜‰

What is Peace? by Wallace Edwards is a Canadian title that is geared for kids ages 4-10. It gives us a thought-provoking look at some idea on how to find peace in children’s lives. Peace is one of those words that can be hard to explain to a younger child. Really…how do you describe the deep meaning behind the word ‘peace?’

In this book, Wallace Edwards seeks to explore the concept of peace in a way that is applicable to younger children. He invites his readers to think about the meaning of peace in both our day-to-day lives as well as around the world.

There’s some beautiful artwork in What is Peace? as well and overall I found it to be a pretty good book. I have a more ‘narrow’ definition of what true, everlasting peace is than some so I found that it was a bit more abstract still that I would personally prefer, but it still is able to invoke some good thoughts and some good conversations.
