DK Discovery Day ~ The Big Book of Trains ~ GIVEAWAY!

A train ride is one of the things on the list of ‘things to do together as a family!’ It’s especially high up on the list for the boys….though I’m pretty sure the girls would all enjoy a train ride as well! I myself have, in fact, never been on a train before…so I think it would be great!

While we wait for our dreams of a real train ride to come true, we decided it would be an excellent time to learn more about trains. The Big Book of Trains from DK Canada has been absolutely fascinating. This book is perfect for kid (or grown-ups too!) who love trains. It follows the history of trains and train travel from the first locomotive which was built in 1804 to the modern high-speed bullet train.

The book is packed full of facts, photographs and information about trains and train travel of all types. You’ll not only learn the history of trains, but you’ll get to learn and discover what the differences are between the various types of trains. Did you know that certain trains are designed for certain jobs? There are mountain trains, snow trains, freight trains and more….all made especially for a specific type of task. It’s all VERY fascinating – even if you weren’t that interested in trains before…I can guarantee that this book will capture your attention! You’ll even be getting right into the grit and grease by learning about pistons, fireboxes, boilers, coupling rods and more. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t have told you what some most of these train parts was for before reading The Big Book of Trains!  It’s a great way to learn what exactly makes those trains go traveling down the train tracks.

WIN IT!
