I have always loved having pretty painted nails until I found out that most nail polishes contain yucky harmful chemicals. Yikes. Then I had a daughter and I couldn’t bear to put harmful chemicals on my toddler’s nails…..especially since EVERYTHING goes into her mouth. I was beyond happy when I stumbled upon Kid Licks one day.
I love that Kid Licks is a family based business and I love that they created the polishes themselves (with the help of some food scientists). Audrey and Josh wanted something safe for their children and there wasn’t anything out there that met those standards. So they created their own polish. How cool is that? Read their story here. (It’s pretty awesome)
I was so excited the day I received my polish from Kid Licks that I grabbed my daughter and painted her toe nails right away. It wasn’t an easy task. She is fourteen months old so I am assuming painting her nails would be the equivalent to painting a chicken’s nails. 😉 Her nails weren’t perfect but they looked sooooooo darn cute!! And you know what? Kid Licks is washable with water…..so all of the slip ups I had painting Emerie’s toes were easy to clean up. No stinky nail polish remover needed. Of course I had to paint my finger nails as well. 😉 It takes about five minutes for the polish to dry which was a challenge with a toddler….nothing a hair dryer couldn’t fix!
The organic nail polish is easy to use and goes on nice and even. I have used polishes in the past that glob and go on streaky….not this stuff. It is made from ingredients like carrot root, corn starch, coconut oil, aloe juice, and beet root powder. All of their polishes are vegan , non GMO and cruelty free. (hooray!) Safe for little bellies because we all know kids’ hands (and toes?!) always end up in their mouths. We got to try the Sour Carrot Orange and the Beet Red polishes. They also have a cute Acacia Pink colour. The polishes have yummy sounding names and they don’t taste that bad either. (Not that I spent a lot of time eating the nail polish but I did have to try it!) Remember that because Kid Licks is food based your polish will need to be kept in the fridge. Safe for your little one’s bellies means no dangerous preservatives.
Because the polish is water washable it is perfect for allowing little girls to experiment with doing manicures and pedicures. I can envision Emerie painting her own nails in a few years and having spa parties with her friends. And I won’t have to worry about nail polish getting all over the kids because it will all wash off nicely! The only sad thing is that the pretty nails wash away in the bathtub! Oh well, its a good reason to try a new colour or pattern the next day. 🙂
Kid Licks is made in the USA and is reasonably priced. I usually find “healthier” versions of nail polish to be pretty pricey so I was relieved to find these bottles to be $12.99 US. 😉
Do you have any little people in your life that love to have pretty painted nails? (My three year old son had to try it as well as his sister. Ha!) Which Kid Licks colour is your favourite?
Kid Licks wants to give one reader from Canada or the US a bottle of Kid Licks polish. Open until April 21, 2017.
