Celebrating our Amazing Earth! ~ DK Canada

Spring has sprung and we are super excited to get back into the outdoors! After another winter of living in the cold, frozen prairies, I have to say that it was music to my ears when I heard the all the frogs croaking out in the field behind our house again. And the “orange-tummy” birds as my 5 year old would say, are back too!! Spring and summer are the perfect time of year to get outdoors and learn more about wildlife, animals, plants and loads more.

In addition to the excitement of being able to explore and learn from the outdoors, this Saturday (April 22) is also Earth Day, so to celebrate both this day and the arrival of spring we thought it would be fun to highlight some earth themed books from DK Canada. As always, they’ve got a great selection to choose from, but here’s 2 of our favorites to whet your appetite…

Eyewitness Explorer: Nature Ranger instantly caught the attention of our 10 year old son. He dove right in and started reading about all the different projects and activities that he could do. This book has 30 easy activities that are perfect for hands-on learning. The science behind each of the activities is explained which lays the groundwork for learning something new. I really appreciated that the activities are simple and for most of them I had all the supplies needed right here at home. The instructions are accompanied by photographs so even my son can easily complete an activity without too much, or any, help from me. The moth trap is one that he is hoping to try this summer…once the moths come out a little more! I’m all for catching moths….it will be interesting to see how many he can catch! The book also talks about growing plants, following animals trails, learning disappearing tricks, growing stalactites and so much more. There’s a lot of fun – and a lot of hands-on learning to be had with Eyewitness Explorer: Nature Ranger.

Utterly Amazing Earth is another fabulous book from DK Canada. Young readers are going to love all the amazing facts and fun activities, pop-ups, pull-tabs, flaps, wheels and experiments they’ll find in here. The book talks about volcanoes, earthquakes, seasons, and more. The bite-sized facts are just enough to keep kids learning and not bored. Bite-sized is the right size for most kids and they’ll be retaining the information much better with these tidbit facts. Even I retain it better! πŸ˜‰

Utterly Amazing Earth is perfect for budding young geologists, or simply for anyone interested in learning more about our earth – which truly is a one-of-a-kind place! Reluctant readers will enjoy this book too with all of the activities and interactive things they’ll find in it.

There are lots more books to choose from over at DK Canada as well. Bring the thrill of learning into your home by using books such as these from DK Canada. We’ve fallen in love with DK Canada books and plan to keep on filling our selves with them and encouraging our kids to have a love of learning!

Happy Earth Day! Read, learn and keep on taking care of our amazing earth!
