Scholastic Monday ~ Old Turtle Questions of the Heart

Kids have a lot of questions, don’t they? Lots of why’s and what would happen if….questions. Lots of questions about life and how things work. Oftentimes our own children will come to us with questions about things I’ve never thought about before, or at least not for a very long time. I love the questions though….and my favorite ones are the questions that come straight from the heart.

Scholastic Canada has a book that speaks to some of these questions. Old Turtle: Questions of the Heart by Douglas Wood is a book that offers one writer’s perspective on questions like Why are we here? What is the purpose of life? How do we find happiness? He uses the character of Old Turtle to answer these questions. Personally, our families beliefs and values differ some from this book, so we would answer some of these life-questions differently.

Old Turtle: Questions of the Heart would be a book that could offer words of wisdom, inspiration and hope to people, however, for our family it wasn’t a good fit. That said, I did enjoy the beautiful artwork in the book. It is illustrated with gorgeous watercolors and would add to the inspirational value of the book.

This book might be a good lead-in to how different people believe different things, and might open discussion for what our beliefs are. This sounds like a book you need to read before deciding whether or not to purchase it.
