NCircle “The Gumby Movie” ~ GIVEAWAY!

My kids’ interest in Gumby began when my parents brought home Gumby and Pokey toys from a holiday in the States. Naturally my boys had no idea who Gumby was……which is understandable considering Gumby was popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  But that didn’t stop my kids from playing with those cute bendable figures. 😉

We learned a bit about Gumby and his creator, Art Clokey, and my kids think it’s pretty cool how stop motion clay animation is created. We also learned that Gumby was given his name after the clay/mud mixture that Mr. Clokey used to play with as a child which he fondly called “gumbo”.

When The Gumby Movie from NCircle Entertainment arrived in the mail my kids were really excited to watch it!  I think the case for the DVD and blue ray is super cute.

Confession: I have watched this movie multiple times with my kids.  Usually one time through a kids movie is enough for me…..but this one I can handle multiple viewings.  My kids watched this movie every day for a week after it arrived! Now that says something.

The vintage/ retro lover in me adores the fact that my kids are enjoying a character from the 50’s.  It’s a pretty wholesome movie too so that makes me happy.

Gumby and his band the Clayboys are planning a concert to raise money for local farmers when the Blockheads (aka: the bad guys) kidnap Gumby’s dog Lowbelly.  Lowbelly has a talent: His tears become pearls. (I know, a bit odd…haha).  This talent is something coveted by the Blockheads so they create a robot version of Lowbelly to fool Gumby. There is a lot of excitement when the Blockheads also kidnap the band and create robot clones of the band members. Gumby’s ability to enter into storybooks and storyland make the fight to overcome the clones filled with many neat adventures and struggles. On top of the struggle with the Blockheads there is a message of friendship and forgiveness betweeen Gumby and his pony pal, Pokey. Pokey feels left out as Gumby’s friendships with the band members grows.  We get to see Gumby and Pokey work through those hard feelings. There are also some groovy tunes to listen to from Gumby and the Clayboys. 😉

NCircle also offers the Gumby tv shows from the 50’s and 60’s.  I am seriously tempted to buy the series!! You can buy the series here. 🙂
