Raincoast Books! ~Jimmy Fallon Book Giveaway!

I’m sure a lot of you have heard of Jimmy Fallon, considering he’s a pretty well known comedian who is the host of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”. But did y’all know that he’s also the author of *two* children’s books!? I sure didn’t. But I am now in possession of them both of them and I have the opportunity to tell you all about them!

Now these books are aimed at the little ones – from ages 1-3 – or in my books, from day one! It’s never too early to start reading to your baby! Jimmy’s first book, “Your Baby’s First Word will be Dada”, came out in 2015. The story behind the book is that he *really* wanted his daughter’s first word to be Dada. Apparently he worked very hard to make this happen! I wish we knew if it worked! Haha! In any case, there are thirteen different animal Daddy’s that say “Dada” to their child, and in each case, the child responds back with the typical animal sound like “ribbit”, rather than Dada. My four-year-old got a real kick out of this book because she could read the book, instead of me! She figured it out real quick! Finally, at the second last set of pages, all the Dad’s are on one side and all the kids are on the other and the Dad’s encourage them all to “say it together one more time….” and on the final two pages, the kids finally make their Dad’s proud as they all pipe up with “Dada!”

They illustrator, Miguel Ordóñez does a great job of taking a very simplistic book (that’s what the little ones need, after all!) and makes the animals come alive with personality. It never ceases to amaze me how a few lines can make art! This is a really cute little book and will strike a chord with any parent who has encouraged their child to say a particular word!

Everything is Mama” is Jimmy’s latest book, which just hit the shelves this month! This book plays off the reality that a lot of babies say “Mama” a lot, whether because Mama is their very favourite person or because it’s just an easy word to say and they like to practice it a lot! Either case could be true! So for this book, the tables are turned and we’re trying to teach the baby words *other* than Mama! Once again, my four-year-old loved this book because she could read the whole thing! For example, the turtle with the sun over it’s head – “Sun”. The baby – “Mama”. The rhino with a “flower”. The baby – “Mama”. I love a book that encourages little kids to read along! It’s so inspiring for them and, as a parent, it’s a very positive experience as well! Once again, Miguel is the illustrator and does a bang up job of making the words into a cute-as-can-be book!

These books truly are a great addition to your bookshelf! And I’m not saying that just because Jimmy Fallon is a celebrity! I do have to say, though, that I admire how someone can take a few words and make a great book – but it definitely takes a great illustrator as well!
